Dan Norris MP

Dan Norris MP
Rural Affairs and Environment Minister
Defra

Dan was first elected as MP for the semi-rural West Country seat of Wansdyke in 1997. He is a former teacher and child protection officer, having trained with the NSPCC.

He has written and lectured extensively on the prevention and reduction of violence. His free anti-bullying booklet Don't Bully Me!,co-authored and co-published with leading children's charity Kidscape in 2005 - and distributed with funding from west country and national companies - has been circulated to well over half a million families across the UK and overseas.

Before joining Defra he held roles in the Government Whips’ Office, as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt Hon David Miliband in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and as PPS to Rt Hon Peter Hain, during which he was closely involved in the historic devolution agreement.

Although his all-year-round work for the people he represents in his West Country constituency dominates his time, Dan lists his outside interests as walking in the beautiful North East Somerset countryside, photography, football (a Bristol City supporter) and listening to a wide range of music.
